I’ll be running an all levels Bluegrass Guitar Class on Thursday nights at 7pm from May 21st to June 18th at the School of Musical Traditions in Takoma Park. Over the first few sessions we will work on various aspects of Bluegrass guitar in preparation for the open jam on June 11th, then we will meet again on June 18th to review key concepts, discuss the experience of the jam, and answer any remaining questions.
The classes will be structured to emphasize good practicing habits, building a foundation of the essential skills, concepts, and techniques for Bluegrass Guitar. Each class will also have a repertoire component where we will learn different approaches to rhythm playing and soloing. Each class will focus on a different song or fiddle tune so by the end of the series students will have a growing repertoire of tunes that they can call in the jam, and a better idea of how to approach other tunes that they want to learn.
